PROTON’s eagerly anticipated all-new model has rolled off the production line at Tanjung Malim, which saw a new RM1.2 billion extension in 2019. During the ceremony Dato’ Sri Syed Faisal Albar, Chairman of PROTON, also confirmed that in line with its bigger sibling the Proton X70, the B-segment SUV would be named the Proton X50 as the company expands its range of SUV offerings.
Malaysia’s best-selling SUV, the 2020 Proton X70, was launched in Brunei on Sunday 6 September. The country was the first export market for the Proton X70 and now is also the first export market for the upgraded Malaysian-made model from Tanjung Malim. As with its predecessor, the 2020 Proton X70 will be made available as three different variants (Standard, Executive and Premium X) and also be sold with a five-year unlimited mileage warranty.
Car sales in Malaysia continued their upward momentum in August as Total Industry Volume (TIV) breached the 50,000 unit barrier for the second month in a row. Despite a number of public holidays shortening the number of business days, strong consumer demand powered by tax free incentives meant most automotive brands posted strong sales numbers to make up for lost ground in 2020.
