PERFECTING OUR CRAFT
Find out more about where the magic happens inside our world-class facilities.Shah Alam Manufacturing Complex
This is where it all began. Our first manufacturing plant opened its doors in 1985, rolling out Malaysia’s first national car, the Proton Saga. Since then, we’ve expanded the plant to include a host of new facilities. A dedicated engine machining and assembly building within the complex manufacture and assemble cylinder blocks, crankshafts and camshafts for the CamPro engines. Alongside the main plant, the Shah Alam manufacturing complex hosts a Multi Vehicle Factory.
Tanjung Malim Manufacturing Complex
In 2004, our Tanjung Malim plant officially started its operations. We built this plant to boost our production capacity to ensure demand for Proton vehicles are met. It has an annual capacity of 150,000 units. 60% of the Tanjung Malim plant’s processes are automated, increasing efficiency and safety in the process. This in turn allowed a harmonious working environment where man and machine can work together safely and effectively.Within the 250 acre compound lies 5 main buildings: Engine & Transmission (ETM), Stamping, Body Assembly, Painting and Trim, and Final Assembly. True to our thirst for innovation, these buildings are equipped with an Automatic Line Control system that’s error-proof. This system assists workers to improve build quality and increase production efficiency. Improving from our Shah Alam manufacturing complex, these new facilities can produce multiple products on a common line that assembles vehicles on 3 different platforms.
Component Plants
Our Casting plant at Glenmarie currently produces metallic components including aluminium, raw cast iron, cylinder blocks, crankshafts and bearing caps.Over at our Engine & Transmissions plant, we machine cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, crankshafts, camshafts, bearing caps, steering knuckles, transmission cases and clutch housings competitively to meet both CBU and CKD production demands.
Our Stamping plant is the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia. It houses a host of press machines, sized from 400 tonnes to 4,600 tonnes This allows the plant to produce up to 9 different types of stamping equipments.
