3 Dec 2018

Subang Jaya, 3 December 2018 – PROTON registered 4,820 new car sales in November 2018, an improvement over the same period in 2017. Market share as a percentage of the Total Industry Volume (TIV) is estimated at 10.2% though a final confirmed figure will only be available following the publication of industry sales data by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

Sales numbers powered by promotions and tax free pricing

As was the case for the previous month, PROTON maintained its attractive pricing strategy in November as well as the zero SST pricing policy where the Company absorbs the tax amount for all models. These promotions have found favour with buyers.

“PROTON is continuing its zero SST pricing policy for all current models to make it easier for our customers to own a Proton car. We are also making the brand more accessible by participating in local events such as road shows and carnivals, thus providing more avenues to view, test and buy a Proton car. Unfortunately, there was a supply constraint in November, limiting the number of cars we could deliver. So while our overall sales improved over the same month in 2017, the Company would like to apologise to all its dealers for not being able to meet our commitments,” said Abdul Rashid Musa, Chief Executive Officer of PROTON Edar.

For December 2018, PROTON will be celebrating its recent victory in the 2018 S1K with a promotion titled “Champion Rebates”. By winning the S1K for a fourth time with a fourth different model, PROTON became the most successful brand in the history of the event, a fact the Company is recognising by offering rebates of up to RM3,000 for four of its cars, namely the Proton Ertiga, Iriz, Persona and Saga.

“PROTON’s victory at the 2018 S1K with the Proton Iriz proves the speed and handling inherent in every Proton model. It also demonstrates the reliability of our cars as the winner had to survive 1000km of hard driving in race conditions. PROTON is a believer in the value motor sports delivers to the brand and its products so we will continue to participate in races and rallies in the future with Team Proton R3,” added Abdul Rashid Musa.

Proton X70 stars at KLIMS as launch date confirmed for 12 December

As prelaunch bookings continue to climb for the Proton X70, crowds thronged the PROTON pavilion at the 2018 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) to get a close look at the Company’s first SUV. The show marked the first time the Proton X70 was revealed to the general public and judging by the attention it received, car buyers are eager to find out as much as they can about the first jointly developed model between Geely and PROTON.

During KLIMS, it was announced the launch date for the Proton X70 is set on 12 December, bringing an end to speculation about when the SUV would go on sale. PROTON also announced a 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating had been achieved by its newest model in the latest round of testing and an EEV classification had been awarded by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).

“The wait for Proton X70 fans is almost over as the Company will be launching its newest model on 12 December at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The high-technology features and safety focused engineering of the SUV have been proven by its 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating, being awarded the highest score recorded for its market segment, as well as being granted EEV status by MITI. It has even received accolades prior to its launch, being honoured with the Best Connectivity and Infotainment award at the 2018 Editor’s Choice Awards,” said Abdul Rashid Musa.

Safety inspection campaign to run from December until end of February 2019

As the end of year holiday period has begun, PROTON would like to make the journeys taken during this period safer by offering a free 18-point safety inspection for all Proton models at its authorised service centres. The promotion will begin on 4 December and continue until the end of February 2019 to encompass the end of year school holidays, Christmas and Chinese New Year festive periods.

“Road safety is one of our main priorities and PROTON is constantly looking at ways to improve the safety of its vehicles. This year, we would like to offer all Proton owners a free 18-point safety inspection service at all of our authorised service centres. Our aim is to make every journey safer and hopefully that contributes to a reduction in the national road accident numbers,” added Abdul Rashid Musa.
