SUBANG JAYA, 5 August 2026 – PROTON maintained its strong sales momentum in July by recording its second-best monthly performance of 2026, driven by sustained demand for its internal combustion engine (ICE) and electrified vehicle (xEV) lineup while export activities accelerated to their highest level in more than 13 years.

The national automaker delivered 18,442 units (domestic, export, Proton e.MAS and smart) during the month, an increase of 14.9% over June. Cumulative sales for the first seven months of 2026 now stand at 118,788 units, representing year-on-year growth of 38.7%. Based on forecast Total Industry Volume (TIV), PROTON is expected to close July with a 25.8% YTD market share, maintaining its position as one of Malaysia's leading automotive brands.

Segment-leading models continue to sustain ICE sales

Competition in Malaysia's automotive market continues to intensify with the arrival of new brands and products. Despite the increasingly competitive landscape, PROTON maintained its leadership across several key passenger vehicle segments, supported by one of the country's youngest model line-ups and continuous improvements in product technology, quality and customer experience.

The Proton Saga remained the company's best-selling model with 7,814 units delivered in July, bringing year-to-date sales to 52,189 units. The model remains firmly on course for another record year and continues to be a favourite amongst A-segment sedan buyers.

In the C-segment sedan market, the Proton S70 retained its leadership with 2,857 units sold, increasing year-to-date sales to 15,689 units. The Proton X50 continued to dominate the B-segment SUV category and remained Malaysia's best-selling SUV overall after recording 2,291 units, lifting cumulative sales to 17,636 units. Meanwhile, the Proton X90 continued to lead the seven-seater D-segment SUV market with 441 units, recording its second-best monthly performance of 2026.

"Our July performance demonstrates Malaysians continue to place their confidence in PROTON products because they offer the right combination of technology, quality, safety and value," said Dato' Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, PROTON.

"Beyond introducing new products, we remain focused on enhancing every aspect of ownership, from manufacturing quality and localisation to sales and aftersales service. These investments are strengthening PROTON's long-term competitiveness while supporting the continued development of Malaysia's automotive industry."

Proton e.MAS records strongest month since launch

PROTON's electrified vehicle business continued its rapid expansion in July, with the Proton e.MAS range recording its highest monthly sales since the brand was introduced. The month began with the opening of six new Proton e.MAS outlets, expanding the retail network to 58 sales outlets and 45 service centres nationwide. This was followed by the official line-off ceremony for the locally assembled Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV, officiated by the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, before the brand concluded July with another record sales performance.

Combined deliveries of the Proton e.MAS 5, Proton e.MAS 7 and Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV reached 3,888 units, bringing cumulative sales for 2026 to 21,808 units. The Proton e.MAS 5 continued as Malaysia's best-selling EV with 13,196 units delivered year-to-date, while the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV remained the country's number one plug-in hybrid with 4,946 units. Sales of the Proton e.MAS 7 reached 3,666 units.

All three models are assembled at PROTON's New Energy Vehicle plant in Tanjung Malim, with key components including the Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT) and Electric Drive Unit (EDU) produced locally at the company's Advanced Powertrain Hub.

"The continued growth of Proton e.MAS reflects increasing confidence among Malaysians in our electrified mobility solutions," said Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET.

"Alongside expanding our product range, we are equally committed to delivering an ownership experience that matches customer expectations through initiatives such as the Proton e.MAS SuperApp, a rapidly growing retail network and continued collaboration with charging infrastructure partners."

Export momentum reaches highest level in over 13 years

PROTON's export business achieved another significant milestone in July with 1,398 units exported, representing the company's highest monthly export volume since March 2013. Driving the increase was stronger demand across export markets together with regional production activities involving PROTON-Geely collaborative models assembled at the Tanjung Malim plant for selected overseas markets.

The programme represents another step in the evolution of PROTON's manufacturing capabilities while increasing utilisation of Malaysian production facilities. As volumes increase over time, these activities are expected to strengthen the Automotive High Tech Valley (AHTV), create greater opportunities for Malaysian suppliers and reinforce the country's position as a regional automotive manufacturing base.

"Growing export demand demonstrates the increasing quality of vehicles produced in Malaysia. As regional production activities continue to expand, they will enhance plant utilisation, strengthen our local supply chain and create new opportunities for Malaysian vendors. Together with our domestic business, exports will become an increasingly important contributor to PROTON's sustainable long-term growth," added Dato’ Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa.
