  • Nepal is second export market for PROTON e.MAS 5 as best-selling EV expands international reach

  • Export growth remains as a key pillar of PROTON's long-term business strategy

SUBANG JAYA, 3 AUGUST 2026 – PROTON has continued the international expansion of its electric vehicle (EV) business with the official launch of the Proton e.MAS 5 in Nepal, making it the second overseas market to receive the company's best-selling EV following its introduction in Singapore earlier this month. Led by Proton International Corporation (PICSB) the initiative reinforces PROTON's commitment to growing its export business while strengthening the presence of the Proton e.MAS brand across international markets.

The Proton e.MAS 5 was introduced in Nepal by Jagdamba Motors, PROTON's authorised distributor in the country. Unveiled during ceremony in Kathmandu attended by representatives from the Embassy of Malaysia in Nepal, government officials, business partners, media and invited guests, it is the second Proton EV in the country following the introduction of the Proton e.MAS 7 in 2025.

The launch comes as the Proton e.MAS 5 continues to enjoy strong momentum in Malaysia, where it is the country's best-selling electric vehicle in 2026. Its domestic success has provided a strong foundation for the model's export expansion, with approximately 200 bookings secured on the first day of launch, reflecting strong market confidence and enthusiastic customer response.

PICSB to continue driving export growth

Export markets remain a key component of PROTON's long-term growth strategy as the company seeks to diversify its revenue streams while increasing the global visibility of Malaysian automotive products. The expansion of the Proton e.MAS brand into overseas markets also supports PROTON's ambition to establish itself as a regional player in the new energy vehicle (NEV) segment.

"The launch of the Proton e.MAS 5 in Nepal is another important milestone in our export journey and demonstrates the growing international confidence in the Proton e.MAS brand," said Edmund Lim Meng Thong, Chief Executive Officer, Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd.

"Following the successful introduction of the model in Malaysia, where it has become the nation's best-selling EV this year, and its recent debut in Singapore, we are delighted to see Nepal become the second overseas market for the Proton e.MAS 5. This reflects our strategy of building sustainable export growth through products that combine advanced technology, quality, safety and outstanding value."

He added, "Exports have always been an important pillar of PROTON's business strategy. Every new market we enter strengthens our international footprint while showcasing Malaysia's capability to produce globally competitive vehicles. Together with our trusted partners, we look forward to making the Proton e.MAS brand an increasingly recognised name across international markets."

A global EV that meets local needs

The Proton e.MAS 5 has demonstrated strong global acceptance through its Geely-developed platform, which has been embraced by more than 800,000 customers worldwide. This global scale provides customers with confidence in the model's quality, technology and long-term product support.

In Nepal, the Proton e.MAS 5 is offered in Prime and Premium variants and is positioned as a compact electric SUV designed for everyday mobility. The model combines advanced connectivity features, practical interior packaging and competitive driving range, making it well suited to the evolving needs of urban customers. To mark the launch, Jagdamba Motors has also introduced a special introductory campaign for early buyers with pricing of Rs. 35 lakhs for the Prime variant and Rs. 40 lakhs for the Premium variant.
