Subang Jaya, 2 January 2026 – National carmaker PROTON concluded 2025 by outperforming a cooling automotive market. With 14,655 units sold in December, total group sales for 2025 closed at 157,976 units for 2025. This represents overall growth of 3.3% over 2024 and is estimated to give the company a market share of 19.4%, an increase of 0.7% in a year when Total-Industry-Volume (TIV) is estimated to have contracted by 0.2% to 814,949 units.
Driving sales growth this year were a series of high-impact milestones across PROTON’s model lineup, international expansion, and strategic national initiatives:

To support its growing customer base, PROTON expanded its network to 187 Proton Edar outlets, including 27 new 3S/4S centers and Sales City Centres.
Parallel to this, the Proton e.MAS network has rapidly become the largest dedicated EV chain in the country.
PROTON now boasts 48 e.MAS dealerships across the nation, of which 36 are 3S centres, 12 are 1S centres, and 10 are dedicated Body & Paint facilities. Beyond vehicle sales, the company is actively expanding the national charging infrastructure, with 44 e.MAS dealerships currently fitted with DC fast-charging stations to provide a seamless ownership experience for EV adopters.

Through Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd (PICSB), export volumes achieved a major breakthrough, recording 6,000 registrations YTD—the highest volume since 2012 and a 26% growth over 2024.
4. A Revolution in Manufacturing: Malaysia’s First Dedicated EV Plant
On 4 September 2025, Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim officially launched Malaysia’s first assembly plant exclusive for electric vehicle (EV) production in Tanjong Malim. Built on a 5.57-acre site within the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV), the facility commenced operations with a RM47 million first phase, providing an initial capacity of 20,000 units that is scalable to a maximum of 45,000 units per annum. Under PROTON’s strategic CKD roadmap, the Proton e.MAS 7 will be the first completely knocked down model to roll off the line, followed by the e.MAS 5, while the facility is also designed to accommodate other premium Geely Group brands such as Zeekr.
5. A New Era in Tanjong Malim
In a historic operational shift, PROTON officially ended 40 years of production in Shah Alam on 30 September 2025. 1,400 employees successfully transitioned to the high-tech Tanjong Malim facility within the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV), which now houses Malaysia’s first dedicated EV assembly line
6. Diplomatic Showcase: All-New Saga & e.MAS 5 at ASEAN Summit
On 28 October 2025, Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and China’s Premier H.E. Li Qiang viewed the All-New Proton Saga and Proton e.MAS 5 at a special showcase during the ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur. This landmark event highlighted the All-New Saga as the first model fully designed and validated by Malaysian talent on the Advanced Modular Architecture platform, with PROTON holding full intellectual property rights (IPR). Alongside it, the Proton e.MAS 5 was introduced as the nation’s first affordable electric vehicle, underscoring PROTON's commitment to the National Energy Transition Roadmap.
7. Cultivating Future Talent: Proton Young Talents (PYT)
PROTON continues to build a high-performance talent pipeline through its Proton Young Talent (PYT) programme, which has nurtured approximately 400 youths to date. The programme empowers young Malaysians with global R&D exposure in China and key leadership roles in PROTON.
8. Innovation & Technology: PROTON Tech Week
The Proton Technology Showcase 2025 previewed the future of the brand, featuring the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV—a plug-in hybrid with a total range exceeding 1,400 km—and live demonstrations of Global Modular Architecture (GMA) and AI-enabled connectivity.
9. Strengthening the Local Ecosystem
PROTON’s success in 2025 directly benefited the local supply chain, with the company spending RM3.2 billion on auto parts from Malaysian suppliers. This commitment ensures a resilient domestic ecosystem as vendors transition toward EV component manufacturing.
10. National Automotive Test Centre (NATC)
At Global Automotive and Technology Expo (GATE) 2025, PROTON and MARii signed a 5-year strategic collaboration to establish the National Automotive Test Centre (NATC). PROTON will designate its famed Shah Alam banked oval track as a shared testing facility for the industry, while also co-funding the development of 200 R&D talents specializing in New Energy Vehicles (NEVs).
11. PROTON Xchange: Promoting Sustainable Mobility
Officiated by Minister of Transport YB Anthony Loke Siew Fook, the PROTON Xchange Programme is a RM4.8 million pilot initiative to remove unroadworthy vehicles aged 15 years and older. In collaboration with Car Medic Sdn Bhd, the program offers RM2,000 overtrade support and a first-year road tax exemption for participants upgrading to a new Proton.
