  • Company surpasses 100,000-unit milestone as strong ICE demand and record Proton e.MAS growth drive 39.1% sales increase

Subang Jaya, 2 July 2026 – PROTON has recorded its strongest first-half sales performance in 15 years after surpassing the 100,000-unit milestone for the first six months of 2026, highlighting the company's continued momentum across both ICE and new energy vehicles.

With 16,052 units delivered in June, total group sales reached 100,346 units, a 39.1% increase over the corresponding period in 2025. The achievement is PROTON's best first-half sales result since 2011 and places the company halfway towards its target of selling 200,000 vehicles this year. The result also reflects sustained customer demand for PROTON's refreshed model range, and the rapid growth of its Proton e.MAS new energy vehicle business.

Market-leading ICE range continues to drive growth

While Malaysia's automotive market continues to evolve towards electrification, PROTON's internal combustion engine (ICE) lineup remains the backbone of its sales, with multiple models maintaining leadership positions in their respective segments.

Leading the way is the Proton Saga, which continues to be the company's highest-volume model. A total of 7,000 units were delivered in June, bringing year-to-date sales to 44,375 units, an impressive 40% increase over the same period last year.

The Proton S70 continues to strengthen its position as Malaysia's best-selling C-segment sedan. Another 2,307 units were delivered in June, lifting year-to-date sales to 12,832 units, an increase of 37.3% compared to 2025. Meanwhile, the Proton X50 also maintained its position as Malaysia's best-selling B-segment SUV and overall SUV, recording 2,378 units in June and 15,345 year-to-date sales, representing growth of 35.1%.

Finally, the refreshed Proton X90 continues to dominate the D-segment 7-seater SUV market. Another 388 units were delivered in June, placing the model 50% ahead of its sales performance during the same period in 2025.

"Surpassing 100,000 sales before the halfway point of the year is an important milestone for PROTON and reflects the confidence Malaysians continue to place in our products and brand," said Dato' Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, PROTON.

"What is particularly encouraging is that our growth is broad-based. Demand remains strong for our ICE models while Proton e.MAS continues to expand rapidly, demonstrating our ability to serve customers regardless of where they are in their mobility journey. This balanced growth gives us confidence as we work towards achieving our target of 200,000 sales this year."

Proton e.MAS becomes a major growth driver

Alongside the continued strength of its ICE sales, PROTON's new energy vehicle strategy continues to gather momentum. Following strong demand throughout the first half of 2026, 17,920 Proton e.MAS vehicles have now been delivered, representing a remarkable 321% increase over the same period last year and reinforcing the brand's position as Malaysia's leading new energy vehicle brand.

The Proton e.MAS 5, now locally assembled, remains Malaysia's volume-leading EV, recording 1,436 deliveries in June to bring year-to-date sales to 10,793 units. The Proton e.MAS 7 which is also produced at PROTON's dedicated NEV assembly plant in Tanjung Malim, contributed another 659 units during the month, bringing cumulative deliveries to 3,053 units.

Meanwhile, the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV continues to establish itself as Malaysia's most popular plug-in hybrid vehicle. Having been introduced only on 4 February, the model recorded its third consecutive month of exceeding 1,000 deliveries, with 1,138 units delivered in June and 4,074 units sold year-to-date.

"Consumer acceptance of Proton e.MAS continues to exceed our expectations as more Malaysians embrace electrified mobility," said Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET.

"The combination of attractive ownership costs, expanding charging infrastructure and our growing dealer network continues to attract new customers to the brand. Looking ahead, we will further strengthen our product portfolio and customer experience to maintain Proton e.MAS as Malaysia's leading new energy vehicle brand."

Building momentum for the second half

Having achieved its strongest first-half performance in 15 years, PROTON enters the second half of 2026 with positive momentum across both its conventional and electrified vehicle businesses. The company will continue expanding production capacity to reduce customer waiting times while enhancing its retail experience through dealer network improvements and participation in national initiatives aimed at accelerating vehicle replacement and new vehicle ownership.

Following the preview of next-generation technologies and new products during KLIMS 26, PROTON is also preparing for additional product introductions in the months ahead, as it works towards its 200,000-unit sales target for 2026.
