  • Group sales hit 13,566 units as long festive period takes a toll on Total Industry Volume

  • Volume driven by new models as Saga, X50, and S70 continue to lead segments

Subang Jaya, 4 March 2026 – After setting records in January when sales hit a 15-year high, PROTON overcame a bearish market to deliver 13,566 units in the second month of 2026. While the total is a 31% reduction compared to the previous month, the amount is a 20.8% increase over the same month in 2025, bringing sales for the first two months of year to 33,399 units, a jump of 57.9%.

Total Industry Volume (TIV) is estimated to have decreased by 17.6% to just 52,996 units as the festive period in the middle of February suppressed vehicle deliveries. As a result, PROTON’s market share for the month is expected to land at 25.6% while the YTD market share number currently sits at 28.5%.

Proton Saga is Malaysia’s YTD volume leader as new models continue to be main volume drivers

With five model launches over the last five months, Proton has been amongst the most active automotive brands with introductions for EV, ICE and PHEV models. These new models have boosted sales volume and have been responsible for the strong sales numbers to start 2026.

The biggest seller remains the Proton Saga and after posting its best-ever sales month in January, another 6,047 units were delivered in February to bring YTD sales to 16,332 units, an improvement of 69.8% over the previous year and allowing the model to retain its position as the best-selling model in Malaysia.

The model that kicked off Proton’s model renewal was the Proton X50, with the latest version introduced in July 2025. The B-segment SUV has carried over its sales momentum into 2026 and with 1,842 units sold in February, YTD volume is now at 4,271 units and 31.1% ahead of the previous year.

Meanwhile, the newest Proton model, the 2026 Proton S70, has attracted a lot of positive commentary amongst the media and fans after receiving the company’s new i-GT turbocharged engine. With 1,940 units sold in February, the C-segment sedan was Proton’s second highest volume model, bringing YTD volume to 3,544 units, an increase of 51.5%.

“2026 has started brightly for PROTON with strong customer interest for our new range of models that offer a compelling mix of design, the latest technologies, efficiency, and value. At the same time, our efforts to improving the customer experience in the showroom and service centres is starting to pay dividends, further reinforcing our brand values.

“In the short-term, our most immediate challenge is to manage customer waiting times by increasing production and delivery numbers every month while maintaining product quality levels. With the investments made in our Tanjong Malim plant in recent years, we can meet the challenge, which should be proven by the sales numbers in the next few months,” said

Strong bookings for 2026 Proton S70 points towards buyer acceptance

Sales numbers for the Proton S70 are up by 51.5% so far this year, and the gap is expected to grow in the coming months. Less than a month after the launch of the 2026 Proton S70, approximately 5,000 bookings have been placed at dealers nationwide, reinvigorating C-segment sedan numbers for the industry.

This is backed up by continued improvements in Proton’s customer service experience. The brand’s Proton Link 2.0 app has received an update at the start of March allowing users to book servicing appointments directly with Proton’s industry leading network of 3S/4S dealerships.

“New products boost brand visibility amongst car buyers but to ensure they stay with us, Proton has invested in initiatives to improve the brand experience for our customers.
