  • S70 now best-seller for C-segment and B-segment sedans; Proton Saga YTD volume exceeds 2025 total

Subang Jaya, 3 November 2026 – Entering the final three months of 2026, national automotive brand PROTON had already exceeded its total sales volume from 2025 after just nine months. Its performance in October now puts the company tantalisingly close to achieving its first 200,000-unit sales year since 2002.

Group sales for the month came in at 21,624 units, the best start the company has had to Q4 since 2005 and the second highest monthly sales volume achievement for 2026. As a result, year-to-date (YTD) sales for October closed at 182,510 units, a year-on-year increase of 40.5%, while estimated market share for the month was 30.6% with a YTD figure of 27.1%

The figure is measured against an estimated October Total Industry Volume (TIV) of over 70,000 units; the fourth time monthly automotive sales exceeded the benchmark in 2026, with estimates showing the year-end TIV figure to exceed 800,000 units for a third consecutive year.

Proton S70 leads strong ICE performance by leading both B-segment and C-segment sedan sales

While the monthly sales spotlight for ICE models often shines on the Proton Saga and its X-series range of SUV offerings, the Proton S70 sedan has built a strong following in 2026 following the launch of the updated model on 11 February this year. For October, the model achieved its second best performance of the year with 3,029 units, pushing YTD sales to 23,448 units, an increase of 63.5% over the previous year.

The sales numbers do not include volume for the recently launched 2027 Proton S70 i-GT 1.5, which is available in Lite and Prime specification levels. By itself, the new model achieved 2,338 units in October as buyers were attracted by the variant’s combination of size, comfort, fuel savings, and value. The achievement vaulted it to the head of B-segment sedan sales while its more powerful sibling continued as the undisputed leader for C-segment sedans.

Not to be outdone, the Proton Saga had its own milestone achievement in October. A total of 7,352 units were sold last month, powering YTD sales to 75,589 units and placing the model ahead of total sales from 2025 while retaining its position as the second best-selling vehicle in Malaysia this year.

Other segment leading Proton models are the Proton X50 and Proton X90. A B-segment SUV, the Proton X50 continues to lead all rivals with 1,925 units sold in October boosting its YTD figure to 22,088 units. The Proton X90 meanwhile leads all Proton models in sales growth. Sales are up by 75.6% in 2026 and the model just had its best sales month in October with 478 units sold bringing total sales this year to 3,728 units.

Commenting on the company’s sales performance in October, Dato' Ir. Abdul Rashid Musa, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, PROTON, said: "2026 is proving to be a year where PROTON makes a quantum leap in sales volume as we strive to achieve our long term goals. While we continue to expand our range of xEV offerings, demand for Proton ICE models continue to grow and as a result, we are the market leader for SUV sales and are also the leading brand for sedan sales.

"During the final three months of 2026, PROTON will continue pursuing more sales growth while collaborating closely with our dealers to ensure Proton customers receive an exemplary level of after sales service even as our volume grows exponentially. With so much competition from other brands, customer confidence and loyalty will be crucial to long-term success, which is why our new model introductions are always backed by sufficient training and parts supply to keep buyers happy.”

Proton e.MAS YTD sales in October exceed 35,000 units

While demand for Proton ICE models continue to grow, the biggest contributor to overall sales growth in 2026 has been the strong performance of the xEV models. With an overall market share of 33.2%, Proton e.MAS is Malaysia’s fastest growing xEV brand with all its models holding a healthy lead in their respective segments.

The Proton e.MAS 5 remains as the xEV market volume leader with another 2,437 units sold in October bringing its YTD sales to 23,189 units. The Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV added another 710 units to bring its YTD total to 6,962 units while 616 units of the Proton e.MAS 7 found new buyers in October to brings its YTD total to 5,579 units. Overall, YTD sales for the Proton e.MAS range now stands at 35,730 units.

“Malaysia’s appetite for xEV vehicles continues to grow as evidenced by the strong demand for PRO-NET’s range of Proton e.MAS products. Though the subsidiary is new and the products are relatively unfamiliar to local buyers, the brand confidence we have managed to build, and industry leading number of dealerships has resulted in strong support from consumers eager to embrace an electrified lifestyle," said Zhang Qiang, Chief Executive Officer of PRO-NET.

Export YTD volume more than doubles and closes in on 10,000 units for 2026

PROTON set a new high mark for export sales in October with 2,610 units (Proton and Geely models) rolling off production lines in Tanjung Malim and making their way to overseas markets. As a result, total export sales now stand at 9,980 units and are expected to set a new record for the PROTON-Geely alliance at the end of the year.

“Export volume continues to increase thanks to demand from PROTON’s own overseas partners as well as demand from Geely’s export markets. This leads to increased parts ordering volume for our vendors, resulting in better production utilisation as well as improved economies of scale. Even with the improved numbers, we are still at the beginning of revitalising our export sales, so expect the segment to grow its percentage contribution to group sales in the coming years,” said Abdul Rashid Musa.
